Bundilla
In 2023, City of Darwin embarked on a multistage revitalisation project to enhance the amenities, liveability, and offerings of Bundilla Beach Reserve. Stage 1 of the revitalisation is now complete marking the first step in a long-term vision to make Bundilla Beach a destination. The Bundilla Beach revitalisation is a local success story in urban renewal - a strategic response to community needs, city growth and environmental sustainability. The project is data led and community powered using place intelligence and community feedback to shape decisions and measure impact. Bundilla Stage 1 was funded by the Northern Territory Government and City of Darwin.
What are people doing in the Space
City of Darwin is analysing community engagement in Bundilla by tracking people’s movement using an anonymous counting solution. The project officially opened on 30 May 2025. Since the opening, we have been collecting movement data and observed an average of 25 people per day. An opening event was held on 20 June, which attracted approximately 1,000 attendees. This event significantly boosted community engagement. Prior to the opening, we recorded a healthy level of movement, with an average of around 160 people per day. Following the event, the area became more active, and the current daily average count has increased to 420 people.
